Alexander Heilner’s Piont of View
Posted on 01. Feb, 2009 in Atwork, Featured, Nature
This is an amazing photo gallery of aerial landscapes made by Alexander Heilner. He is a New York–based artist and educator whose work deals primarily with the intersection of organic and human-constructed landscapes and environments. An internationally exhibited photographer for many years, he has more recently been using video, digital, and performance as paths for exploring human perception of the physical world.

Here is what he says about his work and himself: “I am a practicing visual artist, working in photography, video, digital imaging, installation, lighting design, and sculpture. I hold a full-time faculty position at MICA - The Maryland Institute College of Art - in Baltimore, where I teach in the photography department. I am also currently the director of MICA’s Masters in Digital Arts Program.
I work selectively in photojournalism and commercial photography as well, taking on projects that have a particular interest for me. I travel extensively, and especially seek projects that take me to places I’ve never before visited or photographed.
Alexander Heilner’s Specialties:
Most of my photography is landscape based. I’m obsessed with the relationship between artificial and natural elements withing the landscape, and elsewhere. Recently, I’ve been doing a lot of aerial photography; looking at the marks we unwittingly paint across the earth’s surface.”
