Dirty water from vending machine in New York city
Posted on 18. Jul, 2009 in Featured, Misc
Have a look at this creative and humorous UNICEF campaign made to provide clean water to children around the world. You can chose between malaria, cholera, typhoid, etc. on this vending machine. And the point is to raise awareness with people about the problems that are people dealing with. Casanova, a Hispanic advertising unit of New York-based Interpublic Group of Cos., has donated work on a campaign for Hispanic markets in New York and Miami. “We’re already up to several million dollars worth of donations in media and production,” said Ingrid OtreoSmart, Casanova chief executive.
The project has raised almost $1 million to support UNICEF water programs in developing countries.

How do you get malaria and dengue fever from drinking dirty water?
Not at all!!!
They are caused by parasites spread by mosquitos. The mosquitos would love some new breedinggrounds in the form of water reservoirs in those dry regions. Then they could flourish all year around, and not be limited by drought.
I would like to support these kind of projects, but if they don’t even know these basic facts I do not trust their competence to actuly make a difference.

Donk, yes, i agree you can’t get those diseases from water, but as a physician I understand exactly their point. It’s the dirty water, their water source, that harbors the insects that spread the disease–so whether they drink the water or not, if its dirty, its deadly.
