Huge Turbans
Posted on 29. Apr, 2009 in Bizarre and Odd, Featured
Jats and Rajputs from the Indian state of Rajasthan wear distinctive turbans. Rajputs traditionally wear colored turbans whereas Jats wear white turbans. The Marwaris wear light colored turbans. Many styles of turbans are found in Rajasthan; it is said that the style of the turban changes with every 15 km you travel. In some areas, especially in Rajasthan the turban’s size may indicate the position of the person in society. ‘Royalty’ in different parts of India have distinctly different styles of turbans, as do the ‘peasants’, who often just wear a small piece of cloth wound around the head.

These are not Rajasthani’s, though they do wear turbans of various kinds. The ones shown in the pictures above are from the state of Punjab, which is up north from Rajasthan. These are the religious turbans of Sikh’s (Sikhism) and are traditionally worn by Nihangs (Saints/fakirs).
The steel symbol which is also seen in front of all the turbans is the called Khanda, another symbol of the Sikh religion. The Blue color turbans is the traditional color of the Khalsa (Saint warriors).
These turbans are not worn on a regular basis but rather on special occasions and festivals, though i just can’t seem to remember the one from which the pictures from above were taken, but it was pretty recent.

These fools should be ashamed of themselves, dressing like that! They are so selfish, leading with their so-called “religion” and dressing up show-off clowns.
No wonder most of the world equates turban-wearing with hate-filled terrorists. I certainly do.

hey cock face u need to f#$ken get a life and @ least take the time and read about other religions and faiths. Don’t go around criticising other peoples beliefs based on what a few people have done or have been labelled as terrorists just cause they wear a turban. You should be ashamed of your self, couldn’t even write your own name.

I think these look ridiculous. But I’m not going to tell them that! If I ever see someone like this in person I’ll just keep quiet.
It’s their culture, let them do this festival display. Every culture has its own stupidities-don’t tell me that Americans never dress like “show-off clowns.” I go to a college with students and teachers from all over the world, including many from India and Ethiopia. If I mocked every weird-looking person I saw there, it’d take so long I’d never make it to class.

Hi friends!
I am a Sikh n proud to say that!
I don’t know what u think about these pics. It might seem funny n ridiculous to most of u but remember respect is the only thing which reflects what u r. Respect every religion becoz they are meant like that. There is nothing called stupidities, its just what we don’t like is stupid. Not getting personal with anyone of u but only thing respect n don’t call anyone terrorist coz it will lead to destruction.

I think these are absolutely gorgeous. The time it must have taken to fashion one of these! I don’t don’t understand why a lot of Americans associate turbans with terrorism. Besides these men aren’t even from the same COUNTRY as the people who were responsible for 9/11. I am proud American who has the ability to look past stereotypes and accept other cultures for what they are: beautiful.

The only people I know who practice the Sikh faith are very spiritual and peaceful people. Their faith is reflected in everything they say and do. I have attended some festivals with my friends and they are both baptised Sikhs so both male and female wear turbans. The turbans pictured are perhaps a testament to the faith of the wearer? They are very large to show a strong commitment to the way of life and to celebrate the teaching of a proud warrior race that has embraced all of the peaceful teachings of other religious movements that came before the first Guru. I agree that ridiculing other people’s appearance is petty and childish and makes that person appear to be very bigotted and small minded.
